Most places in Bangkok do not allow pets, and that includes all the major parks around the city. This is something I just found out after getting our dog, Sachi. We got kicked out of parks, which supposedly should be the most dog-friendly places on earth. Street dogs are allowed of course, not dogs on leash with owners who are willing to clean up after them.

Here’s a list of the places we have taken our dog.
1. K-Village Sukhumvit 26 http://www.kvillagebangkok.com

K-Village is a place we take our dog to almost every week. It is our favorite dog-friendly place. They provide dog toilet area, as well as plastic bags area for dog owners to pick up after poo poo. Your dogs will get social here, you will often meet other dogs walking around every time. We often eat at Wine Connection and many dog owners go to eat there in the outdoor area in front of the restaurant.

J avenue is another dog friendly place with Au Bon Pain, iberry, and greyhound outdoor area to eat, this is a nice get together place when we want to meet up with our friends and tag our dog along.
3. Asiatique Riverside, Chareonkrung www.thaiasiatique.com

With a large space, this is also another nice place to bring your dog. It takes quite an effort to get there so we don’t go there very often. However, with many outdoor area to dine and wine, Asiatique is one of the pet-friendly places we really like.
4. Crystal Park, Praditmanutham Road www.thecrystalshoppingmall.com

Another outdoor mall with cafes and restaurants with outdoor area to relax with your dog.
5. Zen Department Store, Central World (small dogs in carriers/ strollers only)

We have never personally taken our dog here, but I have seen small dogs at Zen many times. The dogs need to be in carriers or strollers, not a place to walk your dog but they can keep you company as you walk around the mall.
6. Hua Mak Sports Complex, Ramkamhaeng

There is a huge field and you will meet many dogs, big or small, as well as rabbits. There’s also a market every afternoon (after 4:30 pm) so you can buy food and picnic while hanging out with your dog. The place tends to get a bit crowded as families and friends hang out, and people come to play sports. As it is not a commercial area, it is more mass than any of the places on the list.
7. Mueng Thai Insurance Park (Park behind the building)

We have taken our dog several times here. The field is quite big (at the back of Mueng Thai Insurance bldg.) and we often just meet 3-4 others dog at a time so there is plenty of space for you and your dog. There’s no cafe or hanging out area, but you can always buy something from 7-11 and have a few snacks on a bench in the park.

This is a twin of J Avenue, we have been there to eat at the outdoor area of Greyhound or Starbucks. As for the actual area to walk our dog around, there’s not much there. A nice outdoor mall nevertheless.
9. Park@Siam, Siam Square

We have taken our dog here a few times, I don’t think it’s technically pet-friendly, we just have never gotten kicked out yet the few times we were there. We usually go there when we take Sachi to Chula pet hospital, it is a lovely place to walk him around. We have never seen other pets while we were there.
10. Ozono Sukhumvit 39

We have never taken Sachi there but a few people have recommended this place.
“Ozono has two areas – one that is enclosed that you pay to use and one that is open that is free to use. For the open area you need to either keep your dog on a leash or be able to control your dog around other dogs by commands. There are several cafes and shops there too. First of all thank you Berriesenthusiast for a great post, very hard to find good info on dog life in Bangkok.
I might be moving to Bangkok for work in early 2014. I own a 7 year old mongrel, half wippet (racing dog), that I adopted from a refuge a few years back. She’s adorable but as you can imagine needs a few good runs a week. So I have a few queestions for you so as to try and prepare as best I can for our move and our new life in Bangkok:
– Amongst your suggestions above, are there any of these where you can let your dog off the leash to roam freely?
– We will probably leave town on week-ends. I have seen that Thailand offers quite a few hotels which are dog friendly. However is it safe to let your dog roam freely in the country side or forests outside Bangkok? I was told that it might be dangerous to the dog because of the wild life.
– I understand there are quite a few soi dogs in Bangkok and that they can get a bit aggressive with dogs on leashes. I was wondering how you deal with this, do you take your dog by car to get to the parks you mention above? Would taxis accept dogs? Is it possible to take dogs on the BST or the Metro?
– This is a bit of a funny query: I understand that not all rental accommodation will accept dogs in Bangkok. Would you know, by any chance, of estate agents that might be able to help? Or some agents which might be favoured by dog owners? I know this is a bit far fetched….

If you haven’t seen my other blog: http://wp.me/p1Txsb-3D I would assume on the beach under supervision is ok, once you observe the local animals that are there. This just depends where you’re gonna be. I think once you’re there you can have an idea if it’s safe or not, but I wouldn’t let her just run wild to explore things. Always call ahead to the hotel, most hotels just wanna hang up as soon as they hear you have a dog, and it’s more difficult when you have a bigger dog.

BTS and MRT are a no-no. So are most taxis if you have a bigger dog. Cabs in city center are not the nicest, as you will learn. We usually take our dog places by a cab in his carrier bag. If having a car is an option for you, it will be the best way of going around. However, cars in Thailand are crazy expensive if you don’t already know. My husband has a friend who owns a big dog, he rarely goes anywhere because it’s so inconvenient to do so.

Most older rentals are more willing to accept dogs. The way we found our apartments were just walking around the neighborhood we wanna be in (taking the bts or mrt to see if it’s really walk-able from those places.) Thank you ever so much for your reply Berriesenthusiast. I particularly welcomed the craiglist idea of pet friendly flats and houses. At least I am starting to think about priorities on what accommodation we might want. However I fully get that BKK is not dog friendly and our dog is slightly bigger than yours (7kg and and is under knee-high), so a small-medium sized dog. This probably means that carry bags might not work for her and so taking her to parks with taxis will be difficult; we also can’t just rely on betting to live near one of the parks you mention. So the solution will probably be to buy a car. I’ve been trawling blogs about buying old and new cars and on the whole, with some local help, I think we may be able to do it, although yes, prices are steeper than here but then cars tend to depreciate less so we could get some of the money back when we leave. We’ll just have to avoid peak hour traffic and get the dog out for long walks at week-ends!

I saw someone running with a small dog around the Sanam Pao army base running area. Do you know if that is allowed or just overlooked that day? The dog was actually off leash and trotting behind his owner.
Since it’s an army base I don’t think it would be allowed. If you live by the area, or pass by there again, it’s best if you ask someone from there.

Which airport? I would search on hotel sites by the airport (either agoda.com or booking.com, just my personal preference) then call the hotels beforehand to double check with them.

HI, Its great to learn that there are other dog lovers in Bangkok. I am going to be bringing my Lhasa Apso out in Sep from the UK but I do have concerns. Does anyone know of the best way to travel from Bangkok to the coast with a dog, i.e dog taxi, train or bus? We will also need reliable overnight care for Mylo for when we have to come back to the UK, longest time being 2 weeks.
I have been scouring the net for lots of advice and have found bit and pieces in many places.
